There Is More to Organic Chemistry Than Meets The Eye

You are greater than you could ever imagine…

As I sit here taking in the day, I still feel the same sense of awe I felt as a kid. In fact, I can say that it never really left. I seemed to overlook it as I went about my day until it resurfaced a few years ago, spontaneously, all on its own.

All of sudden in the middle of graduate school (2005), it was as though the whole world opened up. It was as if I had never really seen it before…or maybe said another way…

…as if I had been missing the obvious.

I noticed it is very easy to miss the magnificence of the world by only trying to study and obtain facts about the world. By studying something, we get the intellectual but miss the experiential…life as it is. However, it is possible to find a balance between the two aspects;

…the intellectual and the experiential.

I can speak about the various rearrangements and chemical concepts in great detail while simultaneously realizing that these structures are made of “particles” that are flickering in and out of existence. And amazingly, we can see the objects around us behaving as though they are stable and solid, while the underlying substance that makes it all up is not.

I can lecture about organic compounds and chemical reactions but I am also very well aware of the fact that these things are not really things at all. They are essentially a pattern or movement of energy. One thing is not separate from another but intimately connected and constantly changing.

You could say that the universe is interacting with itself…

Life is not full of surprises or ups and downs….life is full! What appears as the mundane can quickly reveal itself to be something far greater than you could have ever imagined.

If you look, at each moment, you will see that the magnificent is everywhere…and in everyone.

It doesn’t take long to see that science and life reveals to us that we are truly unable to predict what will happen next. So, just for a minute…even if it is while reading this post…take the time to look around you and take it all in.

Simply let go of the limitations and allow the possibilities to unfold…
